Day Course to demonstrate search techniques, effective use of record sources and the establishment of proof. At various stages you will be passed information and asked to develop your own Christmas tree. The pedigree can be drawn using pencil and paper or on a laptop using PowerPoint. Please inform the Registrar if you intend using your laptop.
During session 1 the records of Civil Registration, Census Returns and Parish Registers will be used to demonstrate search techniques and how to interpret the information. You will then use the information to draw a pedigree.
You will be introduced to other records during session 2; Probate Records, Land Tax and Title Deeds in particular, so that you can extend the pedigree and understand why such records are essential in the establishment of proof.
The day will be led by Les Mitchinson, the IHGS Director of Education.
